In memory of

Bong-Jin "Jean" Lee

October 9, 1937 -  October 9, 2018

We are sad to announce the passing of Bong-Jin “Jean” Lee née Kim. She died peacefully at the Credit Valley Hospital surrounded by her children on October 9, 2018, on her 81st birthday. She has been reunited with her loving husband, Young-Joon, who predeceased her by 10 years. She leaves behind her adoring sister, Wan-Jin, with whom she shared everything. Her legacy lives on in her children, Chul (Nancy), Hyo-Min (Christine), Julie (Jung-Ah) Sexsmith (Barclay) and her grandchildren, Justin, Emma, Carter, Victoria, Tiana, Andrea and Georgia. Coming from a large family, Bong-Jin is Aunt and Great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the USA, and South Korea.

Born in South Korea, Bong-Jin was the youngest sister to four brothers and two sisters. In her young adult years, she attended Ewha Women’s University to earn a Bachelor of Science and Teaching degree. After starting a successful teaching career in S. Korea, she and her husband immigrated to Canada in April of 1970. She lived with her family in various cities across Canada. She was a loving mother and wife and later became a shop owner and jeweller. She was an active member of her church, First Toronto Presbyterian, where she was was known for her humour and wit. She was slow to anger, quick to smile and quicker to feed her loved ones. Bong-Jin was a fantastic cook and would always “encourage” (coerce) seconds and thirds.

Family and friends will miss her kind spirit and generous nature.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada. Please direct any messages of condolences to chullee67@gmail.com.

Our deepest sympathies for the family. Mrs Lee was such a sweet lady. I never knew she was a teacher and had a science degree. I remember her always smiling and cooking great food.
