In memory of

Blossom Marjory Otoo

February 4, 1940 -  September 23, 2021

The Otoo family is saddened to announce the loss of Blossom, who passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021. Blossom was in her 81st year. Beloved wife to Dr. Andrew A. Otoo for 55 wonderful years. Proud mother to John, Debbie and Richard. Loving sister to Dahlia, June, Patrick, Airall, Jennifer, and Bouclare. Blossom will also be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Blossom is predeceased by her parents George and Zillah Ralph, brothers Kenneth, Strudwick, Vin and sister Carvie.

Blossom Marjory Otoo was born in Bensonton, St. Ann, Jamaica on February 4, 1940. As a young adult, Blossom was a teacher and was very active in her church. Her siblings admired her and looked up to her as a role model. She was dedicated to helping others. It was this dedication that inspired Blossom to apply to nursing school in England. She was accepted and in 1960, the courageous Blossom travelled to England where she successfully completed her studies. She obtained her qualifications and began her career in nursing and midwifery. It was in England that she met her husband Andrew. Blossom, Andrew and their three children immigrated to Canada in 1975.

Blossom cherished her role as a nurse for over fifty years and retired in 2019. She was so dedicated to helping people, especially those who were sick. The patients absolutely adored Blossom.

Blossom’s passions went far beyond nursing. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the piano, singing and exercising. Blossom had boundless energy and always looked and moved like someone “half her age.” Blossom was always busy working, planning, gardening and cooking. Her unwavering faith in God and the church were apparent in everything she did.

The Otoo family would like to thank those near and dear for their calls and visits and for those who kept us in their prayers.

A private visitation in Blossom’s memory will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM at York Funeral Center, 160 Beecroft Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. A private funeral service and interment will follow. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our capacity is limited for indoor services, so unfortunately, the service will be by invitation only. For those who wish to view the service remotely, a live stream link will appear at the top of the obituary page 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. A password will be provided via email.

The Otoo family greatly appreciates your ongoing support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mount Sinai Hospital or to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Was a patient to their clinic, but also a part of their family. Known her since my being in Canada for the past 33 years or so. During each visit to the clinic, mrs Otoo would engage me talking about life, church and other aspects of life in general. I still cannot comprehend that, she has passed on. She would dearly be missed.
