In memory of

Birute Anna Maria Radzevicius

November 15, 1946 - December 15, 2025

It is with regret and sadness that we announce Anna’s passing, after a 2 month illness, one month to the day after her 79th Birthday.

Anna was born in a displaced person’s camp where her parents met after the Second World War. Daughter of Petras and Elena from Lithuania. Her father arrived in England in May of 1947, followed by Anna and her mother in May of 1948. A brother John was born in 1954. Anna is survived by her brother and his wife Diane Beardsley. She lost her mother in 1971 and her father in 1989.

Anna grew up in Nottingham and in 1961 graduated from the Peveril Secondary Bilateral School. She continued her education at the Clarendon College of Further Education, graduating from the Commercial Secretarial Course in December 1962. Anna could type like the wind.

Anna emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1968, just shy of her 22nd birthday. She was hired as a dicta typist by Sunnybrook Hospital 15 days later, where she remained as a full time employee until November 2000. She spent 30 years as secretary to neurologist Dr. John Edmeads. As his career grew, Anna’s career grew too. She finished her full time employment as the Assistant to the Physician-in-Chief of the Department of Medicine. For another 12 years she worked part time for the Division of Rheumatology and Endocrinology, finally retiring fully in 2012.

In 1998 Anna entered into a “dog sharing, co-parenting” arrangement with a Sunnybrook colleague. This arrangement allowed them both to enjoy the pleasure of having dogs in their lives. They have had 5 dogs together. Hillybean the Schnauzer came first, followed by the mother daughter Ganaraskan duo, Cricket and Camille. Currently, CeCe and Fenn the Havanese, who look for her every time they enter her condo. She spent many happy hours with both dogs sitting on her lap, in her lazy boy chair, watching TV. We dearly hope Cricket, Camille and Beaner were there to greet her.

Anna made many lifelong friends at Sunnybrook, several of whom have predeceased her. She enjoyed theatre, dinners out, particularly at the Cricket Club.

Thank you to the staff at Sunnybrook and Humber River hospitals for their care. Particular thanks to the Universal Health Hub for responding very quickly to her need for round the clock PSW care after her stroke. We are extremely grateful for their very caring presence.

In lieu of flowers, and should you wish to do so, donations to the Toronto Humane Society or Sunnybrook Hospital, would have been appreciated by Anna.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life, will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, twelve noon, at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, 141 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M5M 3A3.
