伍炳欽 Benny Bing Him Eng

Benny Bing Him Eng died peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He was 91.

Benny was born in China in 1935. At age 23, while working as a Coca-Cola truck mechanic in Hong Kong, he immigrated to Canada in 1958. He worked as a cook in Toronto’s Chinatown until he moved to Kitchener-Waterloo to continue in the restaurant business, retiring in 2000.

Benny was a quiet man who loved the outdoors, and had a great sense of humour. He was an avid angler and hunter, exploring Ontario extensively to fish and to hunt. He found true joy in taking his family camping from coast to coast and north to south. Camping trips allowed him to spend time fishing with his children and later on, his grandchildren. Benny was also a life long Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

Benny’s life centred around the love and devotion to his family. Beloved husband of Lucy (Lau) Eng for 58 years. Cherished father of Cathy Lee (Fred), Karen Hsiung (Derek) and Brian Eng (Anita) of Toronto. “Gung gung” (grandpa) to Sabrina Lee (Ming), Sean Lee, Colin Lee, Russell Hsiung, Celia Hsiung, Brayden Eng and Emerson Eng. He will be dearly missed by his family and extended family on the Lau side.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Mon Sheong Home for the Aged for their care and kindness over the years.

Family and friends are invited to share memories of Benny at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Rd, North York, Ontario, on Monday May 25, 2026. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Lunch details will be provided at the service.
