Sadly, he will be returning to the universe to join with Varuna his son who passed away almost 5years ago. He is survived by his wife, four sons and 2 grand children.
Bharratt was born in Enmore, Guyana on September 05, 1932 to Brespat and Bhudia. He was one of 11 siblings. He was talented and hard working and as young boy he started a penny bank to help his family out. He worked hard to save money to help his siblings advance their education. As a teenager he worked tirelessly to build a new home for the family. He was a self-taught man who acquired skills at youthful age by always trying to do the hard the stuff.
Bharratt started work at the sugar estate at an early age and was keen to the jobs adults would do. He taught himself to drive heavy machinery like bulldozers and tractors and was soon noticed by the British managers who encouraged his eagerness to learn. He excelled at what ever he chose to do through sheer will and determination. He later acquired his own tractor and bulldozer which he used to create better infrastructure like roadways, community centres in the small village of Enmore.
Bharratt worked in many places in Guyana and soon acquired more skills. He had many startups but after marrying his wife Kalouti he was now on different journey fueled by her energy. He soon started a family, bought a house, and started a machine shop. During this time, he contributed to building temple, and other community projects. From 1965 to 1972 in this brief time period he had a successful business, 4 sons and built a new grander home for his family.
Bharrat’s next journey took him to Canada in 1976 where he endeavored to start a new life and thus expanding his family. He encountered many challenges on this new path but his wife Kalout steered him through and helped him forged ahead. After given landed status in 1978, he started from scratch to build a new life in a new land with limited support. Crammed in a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 boys was not what he wanted. With the skills he acquired he got a job as a tool and die maker and worked 7 days a week with out a break and soon saved enough money to buy a new home.
Bharratt got a new job working for Ford Electronics and soon excelled in this position. Many company patents in manufacturing were taken out in his name during this time. He later bought a new home and started another business call in their namesakes B&K tools. He was a jack of all trades, plumber, electrician welder, home builder, mechanic, gardener and dedicated father to 5 boys. He will be deeply missed.
