In memory of

Betty Morris (nee Brown)

October 19, 1935 -  November 2, 2021

passed away, with family by her side, on November 2, 2021 at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor in Little Current.

Born on October 19, 1935 in Hereford England, Betty was one of nine siblings. In 1957, Betty bravely travelled alone by ship to Canada paving the way for a new life with Peter (predeceased) who joined her there. They married on August 26, 1961 and had three children, Valerie (Michael), Julie (Michael) and Sheila (Steve). Betty stayed home to raise her children, rejoining the workforce with Bell Canada until her retirement in 1993. Betty had a rich life. She adored her grandchildren Lindsay (Shane) and Caitlin (Kevin) and was blessed with time to enjoy the younger ones, Madoc and Samantha.

Upon retirement Betty joined Seniors for Nature and, thanks to Ken Holden, learned how to play volleyball. Ken connected Betty with Dave Corrigan at Harbourfront who led the incredible trips that Betty took: canoeing, kayaking, cycling and camping to destinations worldwide from Alaska to Australia.

Betty was always organized and took care of practical matters so the onset of dementia became her biggest mountain to climb. She fiercely held on to her independence and then gracefully let go when she moved into the Elliott Community. There she enjoyed playing table tennis, balloon volleyball, Scrabble and Wii bowling.

Her family in England were precious to her and she travelled home frequently to visit them. Betty maintained lifelong friendships in England and Canada and she stayed in touch with family in Baltimore. She was a supportive and loving presence in the lives of her daughters and their families, and her unwavering love is a legacy that will sustain them.

Betty was an incredible woman that I looked up to very much. The love and support she gave her daughters and grand-daughters cannot be overstated. Although it's been many years since we have seen each other, the incredible impression and example she set will never be forgotten by me. I wish I could be there in person to give my condolences to her family. You certainly were one amazing nana.

Betty was always a generous, happy person who always wanted to help her family and friends and who recognised and valued their love. I have many fond memories of her visits to the UK and of her easy laughter and appreciation of simple things: a good walk, a well told story, a tasty meal, good company. She brought light to lives and will be much missed. Xx
