In memory of

Betty Alice Jeanne Simpson

August 17, 1925 -  February 7, 2022

We are saddened to announce the death of Betty Alice Jeanne Simpson. She passed away surrounded by her family, on the evening of Monday, February 7th in her 97th year. She will be dearly missed by her children, Meriel, Julian (Chris) and Lynda and by her grandchildren, Kathleen, and Matthew. She was predeceased by Vernon, her husband of 59 years.
Betty was happiest in her garden, walking her dogs in the woods of James Gardens and being with her family. She was an enthusiastic birdwatcher and volunteered for many years at Humber Memorial Hospital. As all her children know, Betty championed good etiquette and proper elocution and she always treated everyone with kindness and consideration.

A Memorial Service will be held for Betty on Monday, April 4 at 2pm in Dewi Sant Welsh United Church, 33 Melrose Ave., Toronto (south of York Mills, off Yonge St.). There will be a ZOOM link. We are following provincial guidelines for COVID and recommend that you wear a mask. Thank you.

POEM
Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep (by Mary Elizabeth Frye )

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

In the past few days, I've been thinking a lot about my Nana. About how she taught me to wish on dandelion seeds, about how her kitchen used to smell like homemade bread, about how she used to knit matching school uniforms for my dolls, when I was a girl. She will be so missed by her family, but I am so grateful for the family I have because of her.

I met your mum on several occasions at Dewi Sant Church. She was a very gracious lady. I was saddened to hear of her passing, although she lived a good, long life. I speak from experience when I say it is never easy to lose ones mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
