Betsy Doreen Luke
September 17, 1928 - February 26, 2025
With heartfelt sorrow we announce the passing of Betsy “Doreen” Luke on
Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 96 years. Our cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa with family by her side.
Betsy “Doreen” Luke (née Muir) was born in Oshawa, Ontario on September 17, 1928 to Bessie and John (Jock) Muir of Grangemouth, Scotland. Her siblings were Ian, Joan (Joey), Nora, twin Irene, and Alan. Sadly, Doreen had just lost her last sibling, her twin sister Irene, in November 2024.
Doreen was the devoted wife of the late Jack Luke (2013) and loving mother to their daughters Patricia (Achim), Deborah (the late Ray, 2015), and the late Terri (1982). Most treasured Gramma to Beth (Jeremy), Helena, Stacey (Dan), Chris (Ainslie), and Adam (Doris). Precious Great Gramma Luke to Alisha, Hope, Pierce, the late Alexander (2013), Jacob, Ava, Annie, Luke, Lena, Otto, Roarke and Axel. Doreen is also survived by her many nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law Joan.
Doreen will be remembered as a true lady and a beautiful person, both inside and out. Her sweet, gentle personality was complimented by a great sense of humour. She possessed incredible inner strength and never said a bad word about anyone. At age 96 she was still elegantly dressed, always wearing lipstick, jewellery, with her hair styled.
Doreen had a strong faith as a life-long Jehovah’s Witness. She was famous for her homemade shortbread and for putting on the kettle for a cup of tea.
The family extends their deep gratitude to the exceptional staff at Hillsdale Terraces, especially the Garden Gate Unit, who helped us lovingly care for our dear Mum/Gramma.
Doreen will be sorely missed by family and friends.
