Beatrice "Betty" passed away suddenly & peacefully of heart failure in the early hours on July 16th at Markhaven Home for Seniors in Markham at the age of 97.

Betty was born in Toronto & raised in the East end. She attended Eastern Commerce Collegiate, taking business courses. Betty took those office skills & worked for Simpsons & Royal Bank.
Going to dances was a big part of life for Betty, where she met her 1st husband Robert Sturrock at a dance, the Balmy Beach Club in the "Beaches". They were married in the early '50's. They had 3 children; Steven Robert Surrock (Helen), Sharon Lynn Rose and Gerald Joseph Sturrock (Marites). 4 grandchildren; Kerrie Lynn Rose and Kyle Robert Douglas Rose, Gema Lynn Sturrock and Shane Landru Sturrock. 2 great-grandchildren: Calie Beatriz Sayago and Angelica Rose Sayago.
In the early '60's once again at a dance, Betty met her 2nd husband Vernon Sargeant. They had 4 children; Ann-Marie Bradley (Glenn), Debbie-Ann MacNutt (Larry), Vernon Wayne Sargeant (Ofelia) and Vernon Conrad Sargeant (Feb 11-14, 1964). 6 grandchildren; Brianna Marie Bradley, Sean Michael Bradley, Sasha Victoria Rosen, Joshua Aaron Rosen, Verona Bethany Sargeant and Arvella Ivy Sargeant. 1 great-grandchild; Evelyn Victoria Walsh.
Betty had many talents!
She was a great homemaker, cook & baker; fondly remembering family dinners, Christmas cakes & puddings. She knitted baby clothes as grandchildren were born, she sewed, especially memorable is preparing the family bassinet for each grandchild. She loved gardening, loved her extensive coin & paper money collections & her mostly new stamps & '1st day covers' collections. Betty loved her cats & had many over the years. Most of all, she was an avid music lover.
Betty lived in her home in Unionville for 29yrs. & loved being able to walk to the 'Mall' a few times a week for sales & buying thoughtful gifts for us all!
Betty was happiest at home & with family; that was her world & we were fortunate to visit often and celebrate so many years of many special occasions as a family together.
We will all miss her kind & her caring ways, her warm smile, her sense of humor & the love she showed us all.
