Beata's son, Eric, is on the same baseball team as my son Wesley. She and I shared some nice conversations while watching our sons at outdoor practices last fall.

I discovered that Beata was an immigrant to Canada, as am I, and that we both had had very similar experiences in our lives, leaving behind our entire extended families and friends in our respective home countries to move to a place that was very far away and had a different language and culture. Even if the new country is a wonderful place, the one you left behind is home.

My heartfelt best wishes to Alex, Eric, and Beata's family and friends in Poland, for strength, courage, and resilience during the grieving process and beyond.
