In memory of

Basile Beltsos

April 11, 1934 -  April 8, 2025

On April 8, 2025, Bill Beltsos, a beloved member of the Greek community in Toronto, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humour, and deep appreciation of friends and family.

Born on April 11, 1934, in Florina, Greece, to Evangelos Beltsos and Pashalia Bozini, he was the middle of three children. Bill is survived by his sister Mary Frango. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim. His family endured the hardships of the German occupation during World War II and the civil unrest in northern Greece, experiences that he often reminisced about.

He left school early on to become a shoemaker and eventually came to Canada in 1951 at the age of 17, seeking new opportunities and a better life. He was accompanied by his brother and several friends from his hometown. His early years in Canada were spent in the restaurant industry, where he honed his skills as a waiter.

In 1962, during a visit back to Greece, Bill met and married Stavroula, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 44 years until her passing in 2006. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter and lasting friendships, particularly with the Greek community from Florina. They had two children, Pat and Tom, and he was later blessed with a son-in-law, Darrell and two grandchildren, Michael and Stephanie.

Bill’s passion for automobiles led him to establish Beltsos Service Center in Downtown Toronto which he and his son Tom operated for 59 years. Here, repairs were made and stories were shared by the many who frequented the shop.

Known for his quick smile and infectious humour, Bill was always ready to share a funny story, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a man of impeccable memory and a true friend to many.

Bill Beltsos will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he cherished. His spirit will live on in the laughter and stories shared by those who knew him.
