It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barrington (Barry) Claud McNamee. Peacefully in his home on July 11, 2020 in his 84th year.

Dearly loved by his wife of 46 years, Donna McNamee. Cherished father of Kirk McNamee (Lorraine), Bret McNamee (Kellie), Kevin McNamee (Mary), Tamara Webber (Jeff) and Bill McNamee. Greatly missed by his 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and fondly remembered by his extended family and friends.

Barry immigrated in 1951 to Canada with his father and helped bring the family over. A year later Barry began a 16 year career with GM Canada in Oshawa. In 1969, Barry made a life changing career move that completely altered the rest of his existence by beginning as a life insurance agent for Manulife. On April 27, 1974 he married Donna (Smith) with whom they shared their family of today. Of Donna, Barry was quoted in an industry publication of 2001 saying, “The one person that stuck with me through thick and thin is my wife Donna”. Those words came to real fruition when Barry’s health deteriorated over his last years.

Together Barry and Donna established McNamee and Associates Financial Services Ltd. in 1988. Now owned by his son Kirk and partner.

Barry was indeed an unique individual, his career achievements of becoming a member of million dollar round table, a Five Star master builder, C.L.U, made him a frequent speaker at many insurance industry events. He qualified for his first educational conference in 1971 and later qualified for all conferences including most ‘world’ conferences until retirement. At retirement Barry was inducted to the Manulife Hall of Fame.

Barry’s passionate hobby was a love of Ford motor products, especially Mustangs. His skills to repair, maintain and drive these amazingly fast and challenging cars was witness by many. His final home in Oshawa included a large complete automotive shop and storage area for his special cars. Another aspect of this ‘man for all seasons’ was his gift to be able to find, relocate, and plant many species of foliage. Particularly at his beloved Florida properties. Barry had the ultimate green thumb. He was passionate about history, politics and writing spirited letters to newspaper editors.

Barry was a great lover of the outdoors. He spent many years with his family camping at Killbear Provincial Park which lead to the purchase of an island on Georgian Bay. Barry was a true conservationist.

He donated to many charities. Therefore in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice in memory of Barrington (Barry) Claud McNamee.

In honouring his wishes and due to pandemic concerns/limitations there will be a private burial with his immediate family only on Friday, July 17, 2020.
