In memory of

Barbara Walkden

March 25, 1945 -  June 14, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Walkden on June 14, 2024. Barb was born on March 25, 1945 in Clevelys, England to Alan and Edith Walkden.

Predeceased by mother Edith and brother Stewart Walkden. Dearly missed by sister-in-law Jill Walkden, nieces Amy Walkden, Emma Fishman and Carrie Walkden, stepdaughters Kathryn Miosi and Maria Semnack.

Barb was full of joy, energy, wit, adventure and lived her life large. She harboured aspirations of positively impacting the world from a young age. Her unwavering dedication to aiding those in need, coupled with her professional background as Director at the Canadian Bible Society, and Director of Development at Yonge Street Mission, exemplified her commitment to effecting positive change.

Barb was a philanthropist at heart, sitting on the board of multiple nonprofit foundations including the Philip Aziz Centre, and on Stewardship committees at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church and the Canadian Council of Churches.

Barb's absence will be deeply felt by her family and friends. Cheers to a life well lived!

In honour of Barbara Walkden’s memory, please consider making a donation to the Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care (PAC).

Barb will be truly missed by us all at the Philip Aziz Centre, where she served as a board member for many years. Her wisdom, mentorship, friendship and leadership were key to our growth and success as a hospice today. Barb was a bright light in this world. A star that now shines on the other side. You are all in our hearts and prayers.

To the Walkden family and all who are mourning the loss and celebrating the life of Barb Walkden, I send prayers and condolences.

Barb was very encouraging to me when I was applying for a Development Director role at the Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care and Emily’s House children's hospice over 10 years ago. She was a very enthusiastic and high energy Board Member, and as I remember, even her last emails to us at the office were also enthusiastic and cheering on the progress achievements in hospice care.

I’m very grateful to have known her, met with her for coffees, and witnessed her fierce passion for a cause, while paving the way for others.

With blessings and prayers,
Jennifer Kroezen
