In Loving Memory of Bakkin Tao

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bakkin Tao at the age of 87. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and cherished friend, he departed peacefully on September 26, 2024.

Bakkin, born in Hunan, China, moved to Hong Kong with his family in early childhood, where the evolving post-war environment deeply influenced his character. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at National Taiwan University and gained invaluable experience in his field while working in Hong Kong. In 1968, he immigrated to Canada with his young family, where he enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). His contributions to the city’s transit infrastructure were significant, reflecting his disciplined approach to life and meticulous planning.

Throughout his journey, Bakkin faced numerous challenges with unwavering resolve, embodying a dedication to hard work that inspired all who knew him. In his later years, he demonstrated remarkable resilience in overcoming substantial health issues, a testament to his strength of character. He is remembered by family and friends for his kind and gentle personality, always ensuring that his loved ones were well cared for and supported.

Bakkin is survived by his loving sons, Ben (Julie) and Tony (Lucy), who carry forward his values of integrity and perseverance. He was a proud grandfather to Brendan, Cameron, Alyssa, and Katelyn, who brought him immense joy and cherished memories . He is now reunited in spirit with his beloved wife, Man-Nei Tao, for eternity.

May you rest in peace, Bakkin. You will be dearly missed, but forever remembered in our hearts.

A celebration of his remarkable life will be held on October 5, 2024 at Elgin Mills Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres – 1591 Elgin Road East, Richmond Hill, Ontario. Visitation will be between 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM with the funeral service commencing at 9:30 AM. Friends and family are warmly invited to join us in honouring a truly beloved man.
