With sadness we announce the death of Auseklis Janis (John) Leimanis who passed away peacefully on October 6, 2020 at the age of 94.
He is survived by his loving wife Emilija who was by his side until the end. He is remembered fondly by niece Laila, Ivars and their daughter Katherine, Andrea Goetz (goddaughter), Toni Spence, daughter by first marriage, and grandchildren Sarah and Brenna, as well as others who knew him in Indianapolis and Toronto.
Born in Sigulda, Latvia, Auseklis’ life, disrupted by the Second World War took him to Australia, then the United States of America and finally Toronto, Canada. A gentle soul, with a good sense of humour and love of sports he enjoyed a full life.
We thank the kind and supportive staff at Canterbury Place Retirement Residence and most recently Kristus Darzs Latvian Home. They made a real difference in ensuring Auseklis was well cared for in his final months.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Kristus Darzs Latvian Home or St. John’s Ev. Latvian Lutheran Church will be appreciated.
