In memory of

Athanasios Gortsos

March 5, 1925 -  September 1, 2022

Passed away peacefully at age of 98 in Toronto. Predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years Elizabeth finally to be reunited. Athanasios was a WW2 Vet (Andartes) for the Greek resistance fighting for Greece’s freedom. He was a fighter his entire life. In his final years miraculously he survived multiple aliments always coming back to be with his two beloved Children George and Ronia and son in law Marc and grand –daughter Victoria Grace. We believe his strong willed mind from the military is why he remained with us as long as he did. We cannot thank enough all the PSW’s of Paramed at the Hellenic Home Winona (Yordana, Saba G, Saba H, Nanita, Millette, Sylvana) and staff of Hellenic home who cared for our father and by doing so allowed him to continue to have his independence well into his final years. Many thanks to House Call doctor Mark Nowaczynski and Chiropodist Anna Georgiou who provided home health care so that he could remain in his home until his last days.

Athanasios is survived and much loved by two brothers Nick and John and wife Margarita Gortsos of Athens. He is much loved by all his nephews and nieces both in Canada and Greece. He was well known in the Greek community and was one of the initial founders of the Society of Epirus and also a devout Greek Orthodox parishioner. May his memory be eternal.

Dear uncle,I will never forget you.
You looked so much with my father, your brother Klearxos who loved you deeply and I know that you are going to be again together in this wonderful place that we call Heaven.
You fought all your life for Greece and we all owe you one piece of our freedom.
May God rest your beautiful soul in peace.
