In memory of

Asta Kaups

February 7, 1924 -  January 29, 2022

Asta Kaups (nee Krabi) departed this life at the age of 97, on Saturday, January 29, 2022 and has joined her late husband, Peter to be forever with their Lord and Savior, whom they served and loved for many years.

Asta was born in Tallinn, Estonia to parents Alexander and Elvine on February 7, 1924. She and her younger sister were brought up in Haapsalu where she attended elementary and high school.

She met her future husband at a church youth camp just before the war started. While fleeing to Sweden with compatriots, friends and relatives, she met him again and were engaged in Sweden. They were married in Stockholm on February 17, 1946 and started their family.

In 1948 they arrived in Canada with their son Peter Jr. and became founding members of the Toronto Estonian Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon for a number of years. The births of daughters, Margi, Linda and Anne completed their family.

As a classically trained singer, Asta dedicated her life to spreading the word of God through music and the written word. Her travels with Peter took them to many parts of the world sharing their love of God with Estonians abroad. Their visits back to Estonia were numerous and were both mission trips and reunions with family and close friends.

Asta is predeceased by her sister Laine and her loving husband Peter. She is survived by her son Peter (Mary) and daughters Margi (Tom), Linda (Ed) and Anne. She will be missed by her grandchildren Bekki, Michael (Danielle), Daniel (Cheryl), Elise, Emily and Elena, step-grandson Matthew and great grandchildren Jeffrey, Caroline, Taylor and Mackenzie, as well as sister-in-law Tiiu Vahtel.

She will be sadly missed by all of her church family, her friends at Ehatare and those she has touched in her travels.

In memory of Asta, donations can be made to The Canadian Bible Society at www.biblesociety.ca or the Union of Baptist Churches in Estonia at www.kogudused.ee. If an online donation is not convenient, a cheque can be sent to TEBK, 883 Broadview Ave. Toronto, M4K 2P9 indicating your preferred organization.

Thinking of the family at this time, as they deal with their grief.
Am thankful for the many memories of our interactions and times together

Asta was one of my mother’s best friends. They shared their love of family, friends, music, and the Lord.
Asta’s beautiful voice was shared by her solos, concerts, choir and the trio with my mom Maimu and my Aunt Ella.
Asta was always one to speak with people she didn’t know and those she hadn’t seen for a long time! Such an example to the generations that followed.

Praying that God’s love enfolds you and comforts you through the pain of losing dear Tädi Asta. She is now in heaven singing with my Grandmother Maimu and my great Aunt Ella and of course Peter. Our sincerest and deepest sympathies.
