Arthur Burton (Bix) Bixel

January 30, 2017

BIXEL, Arthur Burton (Bix)

Passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 30, 2017 at the age of 86, at Markham-Stouffville Hospital.

Bix was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sonya May (nee Thompson), and his young daughter Karen. His love and humour will be sadly missed by his daughters Lisa (Rob), Pamela, Laura (Ralph) and Tracy (Shona). Their dear Papa will be sorely missed by his grandchildren Melissa, Hilary (Steve), Sarah and Shanna (Cash) and his beloved great grandson Henry. Lovingly remembered by his in-laws Patricia and Paul, nieces and nephews Frank, Alex (Christine), Jane, Cameron (Laura), Wendy (Michael) and Tiffany (Ray). Predeceased by his sister Evelyn and her husband Arthur, cousin Emily Ann and her husband Russell, brother-in-law William, nephew Craig and son-in-law James.

Born in Toronto on December 30, 1930, Arthur was raised in Strathroy by his late parents Arthur and Louise. As a young man, Bix spent many happy hours painting sets at the London Little Theatre where he met his wife Sonya. He worked as a Project Manager for many years at the architectural firm of Petroff and Jeruzalski, and also ran his own company, Bixel Building Design for many years prior. In later years, he volunteered at Seniors for Seniors and also ran his own business as the ‘old geek gardener’ in Dundas and Stouffville. “Spring has sprung, the grass has ris, I wonder where that old guy is” was his funny slogan.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Arthur’s life will take place at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 275 Lesmill Road, Toronto, 416-441-1580, on Sunday February 5th. Visitation from 12pm, service at 1pm. Memorial donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation. Special thanks to the palliative team at Markham-Stouffville Hospital for the fine care he received.
