In memory of

Aristides Tsakmakas

October 2, 1931 -  July 5, 2024

Born on October 2, 1931 (Agia Sotira, Kozani, Greece), Aristides passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024, in Toronto at the age of 92. Aristides leaves behind his beloved wife Zélie Burke. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dimitri, Aileen Eleni (Apostolos Titis), Greg (Loredana Forte); siblings Miltiades (Marianthi), Giorgios (dec.) (Koula), Gregorios (dec.) (Chrisoula); grandchildren, Eleni, and Aristides; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Canada, Greece, The United States, Ireland, Sweden, England, Germany and Australia. Aristides grew up in Thessaloniki, Greece and later went on to university in Graz, Austria where he graduated as an Electrical Engineer. He loved traveling throughout Europe and returned to his homeland religiously every summer where he swam and basked in the Aegean Sea. He also pilgrimaged to his birthplace in the mountains of Northern Greece annually for their Saint Day observations and festivities. He was an extremely devout, active and disciplined man who enjoyed skiing in the winter, swimming in the summer and long walks in nature with his wife yearlong. He served his country in the military and was fluent in Greek, German and English. He enjoyed reading, history, philosophy and hosting get togethers with family and friends. Above all else, he cherished spending time with his family. A loving spirit, he will be dearly remembered for his larger than life personality, unwavering loyalty and generosity, and his infectious sense of humour.

Ari will be greatly missed by his wife and family. He had many friends and I spent lots of time in his company with my son at the many birthday celebrations and fantastic meals at his house.
May he rest in peace.
