In memory of

Antonio Dias

July 10, 1932 -  December 3, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Antonio Dias, who died peacefully on December 3, 2024, at the age of 92. Antonio was born on July 10, 1932, in Real, Terras de Bouro, Portugal, to Joao Dias and Delfina Martins.

Antonio was a man of remarkable determination and resilience. He left home at the age of 13 to find work in Lisbon, and his journey took him from humble beginnings to a successful career in fine dining by his late 20's. It was in the city of Lagos, where Antonio met the love of his life, Adilia Dias. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Portugal and then as immigrants in Toronto, Ontario.

With little formal education, Antonio's entrepreneurial spirit and sharp business acumen led him to a successful career in real estate, as well as owning a restaurant and several rental properties throughout Toronto. He was known for his wisdom and generosity, always willing to share his knowledge and guide others on how to build a strong financial foundation. His passion for learning and financial growth was contagious, and he remained a mentor to many throughout his life.

Antonio's valued his family greatly and always found ways to show them love in his own way. He is survived by his beloved wife, Adilia, and their two children, Miguel and Susan Dias and his daugher-in-law. Antonio was a proud grandfather to four grand children and cherished his great grand-daughter. Together, Antonio and Adilia created a loving home filled with joy, adventure, and lasting memories. After retiring, they shared a love for travel, exploring Canada and the United States by car, cruising the world, and spending many happy moments on the Mexican coast of Acapulco. Their journeys also took them across Europe, where they cherished the beauty of new places and cultures.

In his later years, Antonio found solace in reading and learning, particularly enjoying the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza, whose belief that God is the core substance of the universe resonated deeply with him. Antonio loved to explore new ideas and share his insights with others, always seeking to understand the world in a deeper way.

Antonio will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his pursuit of knowledge, and his unrelenting drive to succeed. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and a passion for life.

I'm sorry to hear about Antonio's passing. I remember him as such a character and an outstanding person, and I will always cherish the kindness he showed me when I was a young university student away from home. Renting that lovely apartment in High Park made a difference for me. Please know that my thoughts and love are with the family during this difficult time. Sending Susie and her Mama so much love.
