Antonia Silcox

March 6, 1939 -  June 30, 2023

Mrs. Antonia Silcox died peacefully and without suffering on Friday, June 30th at Amica Erin Mills, in the company of her loving son and daughter, Mark and Mary. Toni Silcox was born in 1939 in Blackheath, UK and emigrated with her family to eastern Ontario in 1951. She received a BA from Queen's University and taught high school English until 1968. Her long and very happy marriage to Peter Silcox, a professor of Political Science at UofT, lasted from 1967 until his death in 2019. She loved novels, poetry, and the theater, and was known to all who met her for her kindness, patient sympathy, and generous sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by her children, her many friends, her brother Timothy Stephens, and her caregiver Carol Edison. A memorial service will be held at A Simple Alternative Funeral Centre (1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga) on Monday, July 10th at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Toni's memory can be made to The Woodsworth College Students' Association - Antonia Silcox Scholarship in Criminology. A memorable lady. Her wit was matched by her warmth. She was kind, funny and the heart of her family. She will be missed.

Sending Mark, Mary, and the whole family heartfelt condolences on the passing of Aunt Toni. A beloved family friend for many years ever since I was a baby, I will always remember the wonderful Boxing Day dinners Aunt Toni hosted when we were welcomed with good food, excellent company, and much laughter. We were always greeted with a big hug and a beautiful smile. Aunt Toni was the source of many happy childhood memories and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

I only met her once, at dinner, and I could tell within the first ten seconds what a lovely person she was.

Toni will be greatly missed. I especially remember very fondly the Thanksgiving dinners at the Silcoxes during my doctoral studies in Toronto, and how welcoming and warm Toni and Peter were. This touch of kindness stays in one's heart. My deepest condolences to Mary, Mark, and family.

Toni and I first met at Pre-natal class and were probably the only people in the room not taking it all seriously enough.
Next encounter took place when Toni saw me carrying my first born and waiting for the bus which would transport me through snow to the heady delights of a connection to Toronto.Being the kind hearted person that she was I was given a kitchen chair to sit on and an invitation to coffee sometime.
From then on we enjoyed a friendship punctuated by laughter and the occasional glass of sherry.
It was always a pleasure to be welcomed to the Silcox house with the red door on Homelands Drive.
Lovely memories of Toni and her family to cherish.
