Dr. Anton Peter Kacicnik, aged 87, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, at Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. Born on September 30, 1937 in Maribor, Slovenia, he grew up in the capital city of Ljubljana after the Second World War. Anton immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1967, carrying with him a deep love for his heritage and an unwavering zest for life.
Anton was devoted to his family and is survived by his cherished children: son Anton (Carolynne), daughters Natalie and Veronica, and former wife Maria. He was predeceased by his parents, Ana and Andrej, elder brother Andrew, and former first wife, Angela.
A man of many passions, Anton was deeply committed to both dentistry and the arts. After training in performing arts at the University of Ljubljana, he chose to pursue a career in dentistry. He practiced with dedication for over 54 years, and was well loved by his many patients. The philosophy of living "day by day" guided his life, and he found joy in simple pleasures like listening to his favourite classical music station and savouring a good basket of bread with Camembert cheese and a nice Pinot Noir. His passion for attending theatre, opera, and choral performances was legendary, and he sought every opportunity to add these events to his busy calendar.
An avid traveler, Anton explored the world extensively, enjoying a vast array of cultural experiences in faraway places such as Russia, India, China, Israel, Ethiopia, Argentina, Brazil and Peru. France held a special place in his heart, where he created lasting memories during his youth, and he loved speaking French. He was also an active sportsman who enjoyed skiing, swimming, tennis, golf, and nightly jogs well into his 80s.
Anton was a proud member of Toronto's Slovenian Canadian community, acting in and directing amateur Slovenian plays. As a host of the radio program Glas Kanadskih Slovencev and a passionate performer of works by Slovenia’s revered 19th-century Romantic poet France Prešeren, he left an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of his community.
He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, pride in his children’s accomplishments, and the encouragement he offered to all who knew him. Anton will be deeply missed and forever celebrated by family and friends.
