Alton Lawson

OBITUARY

On Tuesday, August 16, Alton Victor Lawson, a beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away. He was 74 years old at the time. Alton was born in Jamaica to Walter Lawson and Lucille Henry and attended a local trade school before becoming an electrician. He worked as an electrician in Jamaica before settling in Canada.
He came to Canada to be with Marion Allen, his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, before she died. Alton was a music enthusiast who enjoyed classical reggae music. He was such a fan of reggae music that he would set aside time every Saturday between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to listen to Delroy G on 98.7 FM, one of Toronto’s top reggae disc jockeys.
He was a gentle and loving man who could also be stern. Alton was best known for his endearing personality, character strength, and generosity of spirit. He is survived by his son, daughter, stepson, grandson, step-grandson, nieces and nephews. On Saturday, August 27, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., a memorial picnic will be held in the parks of High Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who are able make a donation do so to Princess Margaret Hospital for cancer research, a cause he was passionate about.

Rohan and Lawson family, I was so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Alton. I never met him in person, but learned about his personality , his habits and his everyday life in Toronto through all the stories from Rohan.

Ro, thinking of you and your fam, as you take this moment to pause, reflect, mourn and celebrate your father.

Dear Rohan,
I am remembering the various stories you shared with me about your father over the years we have known each other.

Those stories have helped to shape who you are today and in this moment of grief, hopefully they will help you cherish the time you both spent together.

May your father continue to rest in peace.
