In memory of

Annie Lai

April 21, 1940 -  January 25, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Annie Lai (“Shuet Hing”) at home on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 80. Beloved wife of the late Tong Lai. Cherished mother of Bernice (Michael), Nicky (Isabel) and Nelson (Sheila). Loving grandmother of Caitlin, Brendan, Matthew, Allison, Meghan and Spencer. Caring sister to Shuet Moi, Kid Hing, Pong Keen, late Pong Tseng, late Lan Kwan, Kok Kwan, Chuk Kwan, Pong Ho and Pong Yau. She was much-loved by her many nieces and nephews. Annie was a private, kind and loving mother who always put her family first. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all her family and friends from around the world. Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, a private family service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10 am. Annie was a gentle and soft spoken lady and a dear friend of Debbie. They met through Wissen a few years ago and have been friends ever since. Whenever they meet, there will always a good chatter of friendly exchanges that fill the air. She will be sadly missed. May she now rest on peace.

Pawpaw was a very fashionable lady. I always admired her style. Whenever I went to the mall I showed her my purchases right away to get her approval. You could tell when she liked something because she would react right away, when she didn’t like one of my purchases or clothing outfits she would pause and then tell me it doesn’t look good in the kindest way possible.

I spent my afternoons with Pawpaw after school from elementary school all the way to the end of high school. We would always eat a snack next to each other at the kitchen table while watching TV, and she would often tolerate watching the (not too great) English shows I wanted to watch as a kid. We had a comfortable routine where it was just the two of us before everyone else came home.
