In memory of
Anne Marie Montgomery
September 11, 1930 -
February 5, 2022
Anne Marie Montgomery (née McCormack) passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Predeceased by her husband Larry (1988,) she will be deeply missed by her children Laurence, Sarah and James, son-in-law Scott, daughter-in-law Anna, as well as her grandchildren Ben, Katherine, William, and Isabelle. Family was very important to her and she was thrilled to discover long lost family members later in life including her siblings Jarvis McQuinn and Ferne McNeil and their children.
Anne Marie was born and raised in New Brunswick and studied at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. She worked at many jobs in journalism. In particular, she worked at CBC Radio in the 1970s and joined the Communications department of the Ontario Ministry of Health in the 1980s.
She loved bird watching, gardening, playing bridge, painting, singing in the church choir, summer cottage rentals with the grandkids, and travelling to far-off, exotic and not so exotic places like Zambia, the Galapagos Islands, the Middle East and Cape Cod. In 1978, She and Larry took their kids on a two-year adventure, spending one year in England, and another year roaming Europe and the Middle East in a motorhome. Her last adventurous trip was to Zambia in 2008. After that, she continued travelling within Canada as well as organizing summer cottage rentals with her kids and grandkids. Travelling was definitely one of her greatest passions.
She was a religious woman. And her faith motivated her to pursue interests in human rights, the developing world, and the environment. The way we treat one another and this planet was very important to her. She translated her values into acts of kindness through charity, volunteering, as well as choosing environmentally friendly products and writing letters to prisoners of conscience around the world.
We’ll fondly remember the Sunday evening dinners, the games of scrabble and many wonderful summer weeks at the cottage as well as those trips from one end of the country to the other.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one the causes that she loved in the fields of human rights, social justice, the developing world and the environment.
