In memory of

Anne Kutty

August 26, 1935 -  July 9, 2018

On Monday July 9, 2018 Anne Kutty (nee Mathai), beloved Mother of Sudha (Arvin) and Sanjay (Sam), loving Grandmother of Neha, Mira and Mina; Aunt to Siby, Sunil, Johnny, Nannu, Ramu, Babu, Baby, Sujatha, Sunitha, Kutachan and many others; beloved Friend to Shanta, George, Amukutty, Ammini, John and Sani, Jaydevan and Chandria, Wilson, Amrita, Thomas and many others; beloved Sister to late Sebastian Mathai and others, peacefully ended her courageous battle against pancreatic cancer on a beautiful sunny day.

Anne lived her life to the fullest. She was born in India and came to Canada in the 1960s and settled in London, Ontario (likely not fully appreciating the difference in living in India versus the snow belt). She worked hard as a nurse at Victoria Hospital in London and worked on weekends at a nursing home. She met and married Paul Kutty and they moved to a little rental flat on 4 Baldwin Street in Toronto. They didn’t have much money but were surrounded by a close knit circle of friends and were rich in friendship and love. They had their first child (Sudha) and saved up enough money to buy a house in North York where they lived for 30 years and where their son Sanjay was born and raised. Anne spent 3 decades in the Ontario Civil Service working as a nursing director at what is now the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She completed her MBA while working full time and raising two children. She retired in the mid-1990s. She instilled in her children a strong work ethic, a value for education and a drive to succeed. She travelled and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She gave generously to several charities in Canada and India.

She was a great mom and a loving wife who helped her husband Paul in his own battle with cancer which he succumbed to in 1993. We love her and miss her and are blessed to have spent our lives with her. We are grateful she is at peace with God and her husband Paul. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

I never had the opportunity to meet Anne, but saw the impact she had on Siby, her niece. And I can only guess, as a result, of the type of person she was. She lived a full and generous life

Dear Sudha, Sanjay,

Annie Aunty was a very important, continuing influence in my life, and I will always have the greatest regard and affection for her.

From the time I was young, when we were neighbours, till her passing, she was always an objective sounding board, who had tremendous wisdom and compassion. I will miss her deeply.

With my deepest condolences,

Hari

Hello Anne,
Sad to see you go.
We only met once, but I know you were a loving mom to Sanjay.
You raised him to be deeply good, and loyal, and kind.
You'll surely be missed.
Rest in peace.
