In memory of

Anne Keenleyside

February 5, 1962 -  October 27, 2022

Anne passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre in Peterborough on October 27th, 2022 at the age of 60 after a struggle with breast cancer. Dearly beloved daughter of the late Judy and Hub Keenleyside. Predeceased by her brother Dave, her birth father Arthur 'Buzz' Lee (Lynda), and her birth mother Judy Dobie. She leaves behind her devoted and loving partner Pat Butler, her beautiful stepdaughters Melissa (Trevor) and Cassandra (Noah), her extended Keenleyside, Ivay, Dobie and Lee families, her colleagues at Trent University and her many friends, especially Christy, Olga, Lynda, Tina, Penny, Richard, Jacqueline, Brenda and Sue.
Anne was born in London, Ontario but grew up in Toronto. With a dream since grade 10 of becoming an anthropologist, she earned her B.A. and Ph.D. at McMaster University, her M.A. at the University of Alberta, and her B.Ed. at OISE in Toronto before being hired as a permanent faculty member in the Anthropology Department at Trent University. Trained as a biological anthropologist, Anne travelled the world conducting fieldwork in Nunavut, Bulgaria, Tunisia, and Siberia, among other places. Her happiest memories include childhood summers at the family cottage in Muskoka, her many travels abroad, and her research adventures in the field.
A celebration of life service will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, on Saturday November 5th at 11:00. Interment and reception to follow. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00. For friends, co-workers, and family in Peterborough, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, with the date and time being announced in the Peterborough Examiner once finalized. My deepest condolences to Anne’s family and dearest friends. I knew Anne mainly from high school and was so fortunate to catch up with her this last decade. Anne was always brilliant, sweet, kind and a joy to be with. I have so many wonderful memories of sharing time with her during our teenage years- sharing sewing projects, admiring her tea pot collection, watching crazy Australian films and of course tea time with the Latin class.

Anne - Today is the day of your ceremony at Mount Pleasant. Deeply impacted by your warmth, smile, stunning career in scholarship and global research travels and beautiful soul - I had hoped to be beside you there. A COVID case here will prevent me being present today but may the sunshine of your life keep burning inside all the young leaders you have mentored as an admired teacher and the circles upon circles of friends, like me, who feel totally blessed to have met you along our path. Betsy
