In memory of

Anne Kakuk

March 5, 1934 -  October 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Kakuk (nee Switalski).
Anne passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family, at Scarborough Centenary Hospital on October 2, 2024 in her 91st year. Anne was born on March 5, 1934 in Grobla, Poland.

Anne and her family endured and survived WWII in Poland, until 1945. They emigrated to Metz, France when Anne was at the age of 15. She began a career at a steel mill factory and met her beloved husband, Matyas Kakuk of 64 years.

In 1967 Anne, Matyas and their two children, Pierre and Catherine immigrated to Toronto, Canada. She began her 25-year career with Warner-Lambert until retirement. Post retirement, Anne took great pride in helping to raise her grandchildren for twenty plus years. She always put the wellbeing of her Grandchildren above everything else and her legacy will continue through them.

Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Pierre (Peter) Kakuk and Vivian Huang. Predeceased by her daughter Catherine (Cathy) Kakuk (2005) but remains forever in her soul, and Scott Waters.

Cherished and greatly missed Mémé (Grandmother) of Jake and Brittany Waters, Justine Waters (Codi), Isabel Kakuk (Daniel) and Vincent Kakuk.

Great grandmother of Oliver and Rosie Gunn and Leon Waters.

Dear sister of George Switalski (Marzenna) and Maria Chilly (nee Switalski) (Claude).

Anne will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, and a myriad of dear friends near and overseas.

She will be fondly remembered by her gentle and sweet demeanour, her love for gardening and travel, cooking the most delicious meals (Polish, French and Hungarian cuisine), hosting cocktail parties and gatherings for friends and family year-round. Anne’s life was a testament to resilience, joie de vivre, love and family.

My tata was a beautiful person. She was so gentil and strong at the same time. I keep thinking of the time when I was about 15 or 16 and she asked me to help her clean her kitchen inside out during a weekend. We had a lot of fun. Just me and her. Before she brought me back home, she stopped at a shopping mall and told me to pick out what I wanted. I went home with a beautiful yellow sweater and $20. I was so happy and I have always considered this moment as so special. So many other memories with her of course. The ceremony was beautiful as was Isabelle’s speech…so true. She will forever be in my heart and I will miss her dearly. All my love to all of you.
