The last of Mother's children has been called home.
As the sole surviving member of her immediate family, Anna managed to stay in reasonably good health up until her 94th birthday.
On that day, she was still walking with her stroller and carrying on conversations from the comfort of her easy chair.
No doubt, she had plenty of time to reflect on how far she had come.
Mom was born Anna Billy on Carriacou, one of the small islands of Grenada.
When her siblings went abroad to find work, she stayed behind to look after her young nieces and nephews.
This is how she acquired the nickname that she lovingly carried throughout her life - Myaunt.
When it was her time to leave home, she headed off to London, England to pursue a career in nursing.
Soon after that, she married Justin Jeremiah and began to raise a family which included Shirley, Michael, Alban and Wendi.
Job prospects brought the young family to one of the coldest places on the planet -Thompson, Manitoba.
(Trust me, you don't know cold until you have lived in northern Canada)
The small mining town was an abrupt change from the cosmopolitan streets of London.
England may have been foggy, but at least it was warm.
It didn't take long for our parents to realize that a change was needed and we soon found ourselves in Toronto, Ontario.
Once mom and dad had thawed out, Janice soon joined the family.
Mom resumed her nursing career and spent many years taking care of patients at Providence Villa.
She worked there until she retired at age 60.
As time went on, she got to see her family expand to include the grandkids - Darryl, Jason, Nicholas, Evan, Angelo, Kyle and her only granddaughter, Samantha.
Throughout her life, mom was always taking care of the family; both her own and those of her siblings.
And as her life drew to a close, her family took care of her.
RIP mom.
