“Why not me?”
Anita Maria von Graffen (nee Krische), (February 1, 1940 – October 18, 2022), beloved wife of the late Adolf von Graffen, died with grace and dignity at home in North Bay. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Walther and Stephanie Krische and brother, Thomas Glaue.
Anita was a loving mother to Cornelia (Patrick), Michael, and Monika (Duncan), and a cherished grandmother of Nadia, Mikayla, Tahlia and the late Nicholas (Nicho).
Mammi/Ammi embraced her life to the fullest and had no regrets. She welcomed every opportunity with an open mind and an open heart. She embraced her life-long love of learning with great enthusiasm and curiosity. From a young age, her inquisitive, adventurous nature led her first to Canada from South America, then to Germany and back to Canada.
An integral part of Mammi’s educational journey was spent at Havergal College in Toronto. She was very proud of her achievements, including being the recipient of the Governor General’s Award for Highest General Proficiency in her graduating year in 1959. It was at Havergal, in large part, that she created life-long friendships that would stand the test of time.
Anita married her “Muck” in Bogota, Colombia in 1962. In Canada, Mammi and Pappi, along with their three children, made the 6th Line of Innisfil a welcoming, loving and inclusive retreat, enjoyed by all who passed through the front gates.
“Belli” continued to maintain her close relationship with Marlen, Jutta and Doerli, Adolf’s three sisters, throughout her entire adult life.
Mammi and Pappi were avid world travelers and enjoyed many trips to exotic locales, often accompanied by Marlen and her husband. Their home was a tribute to their sense of adventure and was admired by family and frequent guests alike.
All those whose paths Mammi crossed would agree… she radiated a “Joie de Vivre”. She was loving, kind-hearted, generous, modest, and empathetic. Anita was gracious and grateful and was deeply rooted in her faith. She was well-spoken, determined, respected and respectful. She could light up a room and turn heads with her charm, her classy and colourful wardrobe and, of course, her matching jewelry. She enjoyed sharing a glass of wine or champagne with Dolfi and loved to cook gourmet meals for her family and friends.

“So, ihr Lieben, wollen wir mal in Ruhe den Tag ausklingeln lassen?“  PROST!

Our dearest Ammi, Mammi… a final reparte:
“We love you more!”

“We love you mostest!”

We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jinnah for her unfailing support and outstanding care, and to the staff in the ER, CCU and C3 at the NBRHC. Thank you also for the kindness and compassion shown by the staff of the Empire Living Centre and the staff from Homecare and Paramed.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Churchill United Church in Innisfil at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022.
Refreshments and a time for fellowship and reflection will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of your choice in Anita’s name would be sincerely appreciated.
