November 7, 2021
Surrounded by love, and three short days after celebrating her 70th Wedding Anniversary, Ann Barkhouse (nee Manning) slipped away peacefully on Sunday November 7, 2021 at the age of 91. Ann leaves behind the love of her life Leo. She will be dearly missed by daughters, Robin (Gavin) Laing, Leanne (Brad) Gibson, Rhonda (Gary) Keys. Cherished grandmother to, Erin (Luke) Mast, Jessica (Al) Empringham, Owen (Rylee Buchta) Laing, Joel (Kaley Madigan) Laing, Christopher Gibson, Brandon (Rieley) Gibson, Emily (Jeff) Cernele and Evan (Jennifer Gould) Keys. Special great grandmother to Leo, Ryann and Andie. Ann was the devoted daughter of Winnifred and Richard Manning, dear sister to Victor (predeceased) (Mary), John (Clara) and Roland (Elizabeth).
Ann lived a very fulfilled life. Her country roots were something she loved and she never lost her passion for nature and farm life. After moving to the city she met and married her cherished husband Leo. Together they raised three daughters: Robin, Leanne and Rhonda. Ann became an accomplished bowler as a member of the Parkway Ladies’ Bowling League. Spent many years as "Brown Owl" with Girl Guides of Canada helping many young Brownies learn exciting things. She was also an accomplished artist producing hundreds of beautiful pieces. Additionally, she was a long-standing member and supporter of the St. Andrew Church parish on Victoria Park Ave. where she devoted years of wonderful service, plus an active member of the Scarborough Art Guild and she will be greatly missed by both of these communities.
After living in the home they loved for 68 years, Ann and Leo moved to Woodhaven Long Term home (LTC) in Markham. The family would like to thank all the dedicated and compassionate staff in the Buttonville and Unionville wings at Woodhaven LTC for their wonderful care during the few months Ann was with them. Also a heartfelt thank you to the amazing PSW's who supported and loved Ann and made it possible for her to live in her home until she was 91.
