Angelina Vidal Oliveira Soares

Early Thursday morning, in her 94th year, beneath bright starry skies, Angelina slipped away, leaving us with heavy hearts and lives made richer because of her.

A wife, mother, Avó, Bisavó, Trisavó, Tia and proud daughter of the Azores, she will be missed each day by her son Manuel and his wife Elizabeth.

Angelina was born and spent the first half of her life on the island of Sao Miguel, a place that has been home to her family since the 1500’s. She grew up in a lively household with her two brothers (Anaclato and Aguinaldo) that was rich with compassion for others and a deep commitment to the community. A new chapter began when she and her late husband Antonio established new roots in Canada in the 1970’s, narrowing the ocean’s distance from her son and grandchildren.

A lover of home, family, children, socializing (she was a Treasurer and Secretary of the local Portuguese Seniors club), the yarn arts (countless infants have worn a knitted hat or jacket or been wrapped in a crocheted blanket created by Angelina) and laughter; she was also a woman of enormous strength, strong opinions and boundless caring.

Over the past three years, Angelina has been supported by the incredible staff at The Wenleigh (Mississauga). We will be forever grateful to the dedication of the entire City Centre Team – thank you.

Angelina’s life will be celebrated Tuesday July 31 at The Simple Alternative, Mississauga at 11:00 a.m. Guests will be welcomed by the family, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
