The Prieditis family is saddened to announce the loss of Andris, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the age of 90. He was the beloved husband of the late Nora Kula. They were married for 19 wonderful years. He will be dearly missed by his siblings, Valda and Juris (George), their families, and Andris’ many nieces and nephews.

Born in Riga, Latvia, Andris spent his first thirteen years in Cesis where he developed his love for reading. As WWII was raging, it became necessary for the family to flee. His journey in a small fishing boat took him to Sweden where he spent seven years at school and working as a tool and die maker. In 1950 the family emigrated to Canada where Andris continued working in his field for the next fourteen years while being active in the vibrant new Latvian Canadian community, joining Scouts, cultivating his interest in photography and graphics, and enjoying the many outdoor activities Ontario has to offer.

On receiving a job offer in 1964, Andris moved to California, and he worked as a product designer while also studying at UCLA and continuing to be active in the Latvian community. In the early days of computers, he built his own system, that included customized capabilities like foreign alphabets.

He met Nora in 1985 and they married a year later. Andris then moved to Boston and was warmly welcomed by Nora’s family and her many friends. He continued in his field and retired in 2001. He then started to closely follow world news, established direct contact with several reporters and authors, and shared interesting articles relating to Baltic and Scandinavian issues with almost 200 “followers”.

Andris was a quiet, kind, charitable and appreciative man, deeply grateful for his family and friends. He especially valued the companionship and shared interests with Maruta. He loved books, art, classical music, good food and travel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Andris will be laid to rest with his wife Nora in the Catskill Mountains in New York state
