An Thị Huỳnh 石黃氏安太夫人

An Thị Huỳnh was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother during her incredible 91 years of life. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam where, after the passing of her husband in 1961, she single-handedly raised her four loving children in Chợ Lớn and supported her family's fabric business at Chợ Binh Tây.

In 1979, An Thị made a great sacrifice by leaving her family in Vietnam and immigrating to Canada in search of a better future for her children. Through her never-ending love and care, An Thị was able to instill her family values and hard work ethic amongst her children, who now continue An Thị's legacy through their own children around the world.

As a doting grandmother, she was affectionate and always showed her love to her grandchildren with hugs, food, and stories of her life experiences. 嫲嫲 always made the best Bún mắm!

She spent her later years to the fullest by spending time laughing with her loved ones, watching dramas, cooking, and traveling around the world to visit family.

An Thị Huỳnh is survived by her 4 children - Fei, Bình (Mai), Tran (Lien), and Nu (Phong). 9 grandchildren - Alan, Minh, Peter (Jacey), Anna (Adrian), Helen (Stephen), Lisa (Bryan), Jennifer, Andy, and Alvin. 4 great-grandchildren - Addison, Zack, Thomas, and Ayden. 3 sisters - Hoa, Lài, Huệ. God daughter’s family - Lan, Minh, Jenny.

We will miss the wonderful An Thị dearly and will forever cherish the special moments we shared with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts.

I will dearly miss Grandma, she visited California often for long durations when I was growing up and was an integral part of my childhood.

I always looked forward to her visits. As my family arrived to the airport to pick her up, I would glance everywhere to find her...once spotting her from a faraway distance and peeling away from my parents to eagerly run & hug her from behind - even today, I distinctly remember hearing her surprised hearty chuckle as she turned around and hugged me tightly back. I could have been hugging a stranger for all my parents knew, but without a doubt I knew I was running to hug my grandma.

She had a fun sense of humor. She knew that I loved kung fu and one day during meal time as I stubbornly refused to eat my vegetables - mushrooms - she simply told me in Cantonese: "Kung fu masters eat mushrooms." Instantly, I gulfed down all the mushrooms in front of me, and it became my favorite vegetable...still to this day.

It is these small but profound memories of happiness that will stay with me to remember her. I love you grandma. Thank you for raising me.
