In memory of

Alwyn Joseph Appiah

September 14, 1969 -  October 4, 2025

Alwyn was born on September 14, 1969, in Georgetown, Guyana. He was a proud alumnus of St. Stanislaus College, where his passion for learning first took root. After completing his secondary education, Alwyn pursued higher studies at the University of Guyana, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Managerial Economics.

Alwyn began his professional journey in Guyana’s Oil and Gas Sector, working with esteemed companies such as the Shell Company, Geddes Grant Guyana Ltd, and GuyOil. His dedication and work ethic were evident throughout his career.

In 2005, Alwyn immigrated to Ontario, Canada, with his family, embracing a new chapter filled with opportunity and growth. He began his Canadian career at Scotiabank, later transitioning to Alphabroder/Ash City, where he served as a Customer Service Manager. Always striving for excellence, Alwyn furthered his education by obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Durham College.

It was during this time that Alwyn rediscovered his love for teaching. He joined Fleming College as a Professor, where he inspired and mentored countless students, leaving a lasting legacy in the classroom and beyond.

Alwyn had many passions; he was a gardener whose hands brought life to the earth, a collector of foreign and rare stamps, a master chef who infused every dish with warmth and flavor, and a singer whose melodies filled our home with joy. His heart beat for the thrill of sport, whether celebrating the elegance of the Olympics or cheering for his favourite teams: Toronto Football Club, Guyana Amazon Warriors. His love for knowledge and literature was revered by all, and his sense of humour and thundering laugh will be forever remembered.

A devoted husband, father, and best friend, Alwyn Joseph Appiah will be eternally cherished and missed greatly by his dedicated partner, Basmattie, and his loving children Ariel Charlaine Aloysia, Amy Rachel Angela, Stephen Joseph, and Lexi: the treasured family dog.

Alwyn was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Josephine Appiah (née Jahaly), his mother and father-in-law Joe Badel and Mahadai Bhagwandin, and his late wife & Ariel’s Mother: Jacqueline Shivonne. He joins in rest with his siblings Anthony, Alexander, Aloysia, Sarojini Ann and his brother-in-law Jack Rambarran.

Alwyn is survived by his Aunt Muriel Jahaly, Uncles Michael, Ignatius, and Patrick and his Aunt Juney Appiah, and his brother-in-law Robert Bissessar of Florida, Angela Rambarran of Guyana, and sister-in-law Savitri Appiah of Connecticut. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Timothy and wife Lorena, Joanne, Suzanne and her husband Christopher, and Natalie and her husband Brian. His great-nieces Angela, Alexandrea and his great-nephew Alexander will carry forward his memory with love.

Alwyn also shared close bonds with his extended family: sisters and brothers-in-law Chano and her late husband Davo, Radha and her husband Tony, Devika and her husband Chester, and Sarika and her husband Ronald. His nieces and nephews—Kapial, Vanita, Sabrina, Tucker, Samantha, Roxanna, Wendy, Alicia, Christine, Emma, Maryanna, Alex, and Oni—will carry forward his memory with love.

My dear friend. I cannot think of you without remembering that contagious laugh of yours. We spoke infrequently, but when we did it was like there was never a pause. I remember both the kid and the man. Both very smart, funny, loving and touched me deeply. You will be missed.
Love Sharda
