In memory of

Alvin Sam

April 10, 1933 -  September 14, 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Sam at the Yee Hong Centre in Mississauga on Tuesday Sept 14 at the age of 88. He passed away quietly and peacefully in his sleep. Husband to the late Katherine (2015); Loving father to Charlene (Douglas) and Philip; doting grandfather to Heather (Justin), Scott, and Reid McInroy; recent great-grandfather to Liam; dear brother to Steven (Sally); uncle to Colin (Gail) and Michelle (Damon); beloved godfather to Olivia (Jerry) . We are so grateful for the care and support provided by the staff at Yee Hong.

Born in 1933, Alvin immigrated to Toronto from Guangdong, China at the age of 16. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family, starting in the family grocery store on St. Clair Ave to many years with Oshawa Foods before finishing his career with Ontario Produce (the Food Terminal). In retirement, Alvin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, regular games of mah jong with his friends. He loved to spoil all the children in his life. Alvin had a strong sense of tradition and family values and was happiest when he was with loved ones. Alvin will be a memorable figure in the lives he touched. He will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends. The funeral on Thursday, Sept. 23 will be for family only. but will be livestreamed, (See the "Chapel Services" info for details.)

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made in his memory to the Yee Hong Foundation at https://www.yeehong.com/donation-form/

Our condolences on your loss. I met Alvin while working at 21 Div Toronto Police, when he and Cathy lived on 5th Street, I believe. We formed a friendship and shared stories on many occasions. As it turned out , he knew my uncle and another friend from the days on St Clair Ave., at the grocery store. They too where police on the beat at the time. My wife and I went to dinner with Alvin and Cathy at one of their favorite restaurants and Alvin was always smiling. We had many conversations and they were always proud of their family. Again , so sorry for your loss , he was in my mind, a good and kind man . He will be remembered fondly .
