With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Al Nowitski, a cherished, inseparable, and devoted husband to Christine, whose love blossomed almost 50 years ago, and a beloved father to Michelle (Angelo), and Nichola (Phil). He left this world peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family, and his favourite nurses on Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Many thanks to the nursing staff for their kind and compassionate care.

A devoted and involved grandfather, Al took immense joy in imparting his love for nature and wildlife to his grandchildren, Melissa, Jason (Jacqueline), Stavros, Angelina, and his furry friend Mickey. He would spend countless hours teaching them about the beauty of the world around them, often found feeding the birds and squirrels together, passing on his respect and fascination for all living creatures. He also had a deep interest in coin collections, golf, curling, and hockey including coaching in his days. As an avid gardener, he was very proud of his large vegetable garden. A strong advocate for education, Al was passionate about the importance of learning and knowledge. He instilled this value in his children and grandchildren, leaving a legacy of the significance of intellectual growth and personal development.

He was a source of unwavering strength, a pillar of support, and a constant source of love for his family. Throughout his life, Al was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a long and distinguished member of the Ajax Lions Club, a past District Governor, a veteran of the police service as a Sergeant, and dedicated over thirty years as Santa Claus with STC and attended parties for family and friends. Al was a man of integrity, and his love and wisdom will be cherished and remembered for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to All Saints Anglican Church in Whitby, ON, which held special significance in Al’s life. Within the church, he was a passionate member of the Indigenous Committee. Your contributions will help continue the good work and service that he believed in and supported.

A private family visitation was held as loved ones paid their final respects to a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. A celebration of life will be held later to honour the remarkable life of Al, details of which will be announced in due course to allow family and friends to join us in remembering a man who made an indelible impact on all our lives.

As we say our goodbyes to Al, we also celebrate the love, wisdom, and joy he brought into our lives. His memory will forever be cherished and remembered by all fortunate enough to know him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
