In memory of

Alma Oona Roberts

July 27, 1945 -  November 13, 2024

Alma Oona Roberts (nee McRae) was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, South America (now Guyana). Growing up in Guyana she was known as Oona. As an adult in Canada, she was also known as Alma.
Alma Oona was predeceased by her parents Eric and Ruby McRae (nee Arthur), and her sister June Hooper (nee McRae)
Her family was staunchly Christian. Every Sunday Oona attended church and Sunday School, and Summer Bible school, and often attended evening church during the week with her Mum.
Oona had her primary and secondary education in Georgetown. After obtaining her high school certificate, she started her working career in Guyana as a Civil Servant, in the Public Works Department. At the age of 24 she confidently embarked on an independent life in a new country, Canada. She quickly settled in along with some friends from Guyana and enjoyed a career with the Ontario Government, until retirement
Oona was married to the late Aubrey Roberts, and they had her only child and son, Jason. There is nothing she would not do for Jason. She gave him the traits of being respectful, caring, humble, and love for others. Motherhood gave Oona the opportunity to demonstrate her capacity to love, to forgive, to give, self-sacrifice, and a purpose to live. Her Christian faith grew with her life experiences.
Because of Oona’s happy smile, goodwill, honesty, and willingness to help others, her friendships lasted a lifetime. Her closest and dearest friends are not only the friends she found while working, living, and at church in Canada, but the friends she had since starting primary school in Guyana. Alma Oona will always be remembered as a patient and loving mother, religious and loyal friend, and a supportive sibling or relative with the heartiest laugh.
Oona maintained a true faith in God all her life, as learned and practiced from childhood with her parents, siblings and friends.
Oona is lovingly remembered by her son Jason, her surviving siblings – Everill Wyatt, Claudette Knights, and Ric McRae; her nieces Philippa Monthrope, Toni McRae, Teri Brezner, and Tara Marechal; her nephews Andre Knights, Elton Hooper, Ricardo McRae, Eric McRae, Robin McRae and Wossen Wyatt.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ric, Genie and the entire family.
Oona was a very friendly person. We have been friends with the McRae family for many years. Our hearts are sad, and we know the pain of losing a loved one. May God grant you the inner strength to bear your loss and savour the wonderful memories of Oona. She was called home. She's at peace in the arms of Jesus. Rest in eternal peace dear Sister.😥
