Allan had a great sense of humour. I remember him making me and my brothers laugh when we were little, at his and Ann's Coxwell & Gerrard apartment. In high school, I got a job as a busboy, and every time I saw him for the next year, he would say, "You the chef yet?" before letting out an endearing chuckle.
As his obituary mentions, Allan had a breadth of knowledge in a variety of subjects. I always had a great time soaking in his knowledge of music, sports (especially golf or sprinting), or taking a tip from him to drink a spoonful of fish oil to boost my Omega 3 intake without the mercury you get from a lot of store-bought fish. Allan was easy to talk to, always taking a keen interest in whatever you had going on in your life.
These are just a few of many memories I have of Allan, and he will be sorely missed.
I have wonderful memories of Allan. At our family dinners each Sunday, he would often be laughing with his nieces and nephews. He loved teasing them, but always in a kind and gentle way. He seemed to enjoy the fun as much as they did and was really a kid at heart.
Allan was also very interested in nutrition and was well ahead of his time in knowledge and lifestyle. In the 1970's he was eating a largely plant based diet long before it became fashionable to do so. He followed the latest nutrition research and was a great resource when you had questions. He was also an accomplished cook and made many delicious dishes when it was his turn with Ann to host the Sunday family dinner.
Allan was our real estate agent when we sold one house and bought another. He was conscientious, hard working and above all, followed the rules to a tee. He was honest, thoughtful and always did what he could to ensure we got the best service.
It wouldn't be possible to talk about Allan without mentioning how handsome he was. He had an elegance in his demeanour and dress that seemed so natural and comfortable.
Allan and Ann were inseparable partners for over 50 years. In fact, May 2024 would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. They were husband and wife, best friends and always deeply loyal to each other. Ann respected Allan's wishes even at the end, when they were difficult for her. She showed her love with patience, kindness and bravery. I'm sure Allan was deeply appreciative. He will be dearly missed.
I will remember Allan with great fondness.
I remember Allan teasing Hannah and Christina, bargaining for a better deal on the Girl Guide cookies they were selling 😊
Also, one Christmas Allan and David Kurts had a contest to see who could withstand more hot food (I think wasabi was involved). Allan won 🔥
Allan was our real estate agent when we bought our first house. One day, he was showing John, Adam and I a few houses and Adam, who was 3 at the time, looked up at Allan and, very seriously, asked "Are you Michael Jordan?" Allan chuckled and replied "Yes I am. And I sell real estate on the side."
I'll miss Allan's good-natured teasing, his infectious smile and laugh. xo
I remember Allan in Trinidad, he was an easy going amicable guy.
