In memory of

Alina David

September 7, 1943 -  June 11, 2021

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Alina David, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend to all whose lives she touched, on June 11th, 2021. She left us peacefully at Lakeridge Ajax Hospital in her 77th year after a 4.5 year valiant battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Habbaniyah (Baghdad), Iraq, she was a proud Assyrian and attended a private Assyrian Christian School in Baghdad. In 1971, she left Iraq and started a new life in Toronto, Canada. She graduated from Humber College and began her career with the federal government at the Unemployment & Immigration Commission. In 1973, she married her husband Nenib. In 1976, she had her only child, her son Sargon. She lost her husband in 1989 and as a most responsible and single supportive parent, she ensured that her son was educated and graduated university. In 2018, she became a grandmother to her darling identical twin granddaughters Daniella and Delilah whom she named personally.
She was the devoted mother of Sargon Joseph David and cherished grandmother of twin granddaughters Daniella and Delilah. She was a sister to her 5 brothers: Wilson, William, Edison, Dickson and Johnson. She was an aunt to 4 nephews (Dany, Evan, Bronson and Christen) and 5 nieces (Eva, Dina, Tania, Tasha and Sonya).
She is predeceased by her devoted husband Nenib, mother Sonya, father Babajan and brother William.
Alina lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, government employee and during her retirement she enjoyed travelling and playing slot machines at casinos. Her most favourite trip was a Caribbean cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean “Oasis of the Seas”. She was an excellent cook, had pride of home ownership and was a highly skilled dressmaker, seamstress and made afghans and quilts. Her home was always full of love and social gatherings as she loved to be a hospitable hostess.
Special thanks to Dr. Danielle Vicus from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Odette Cancer Centre for her excellent clinical expertise and care in Gynecological Oncology and for her supportive and empowering guidance during Alina’s cancer journey.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A private visitation will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday June 18th, 2021 at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre. A Christian service, burial and committal to follow at 11:00 AM by Rev. Norm Seli.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Alina David’s memory to Ovarian Cancer Canada. https://ovariancanada.org/

I am exceptionally saddened by the news of the loss of this remarkable Assyrian mother of one of my dearest friends, Sargon, while on the other hand proud that she touched so many lives, both in our beloved birth country and ancestral homeland Iraq, and her newlyfound home Canada. It is with such profoundness that the world is made a better place for future generations to inspire by. Thank you for living by example, rest in Jesus, Mrs. David🙏⚘
