It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alice Pau on January 19, 2021.
Alice was born January 3rd, 1953 in Makassar, Indonesia to Lim Ai Hua and Lie Eng Hoat. From an early age, she proved to be a strong, nurturing, thoughtful and reliable daughter and sister. As the second eldest in a family of ten siblings, she helped her parents look after all her younger brothers and sisters. One of her fondest memories was helping them with their homework, a story she loved to retell well into adulthood.
She immigrated to Canada to broaden her life view and pursue higher education. At York University, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Pau. On June 15, 1984 they got married in a quaint civil ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends. Together they built a wonderful life and family centered on their children, Felix and Jennifer. She loved and protected her family fiercely but also encouraged her children to make their own path.
Alice dedicated her career to the publishing industry and frequently brought books home for her children. She inspired her daughter's love of reading. She also loved reading and watching the news, and often times updated the family on global affairs. She was numbers and tech savvy, and was never intimidated by new apps or social media.
Despite being diagnosed with ALS in 2009, she remained a vibrant spirit and ever resilient force. Her personable nature and charming character made her a favorite amongst so many care givers, nurses, doctors, social workers, speech pathologists and respiratory therapists. She was always thankful for everyone's help and fought so courageously over the past 11 years. Even with mounting health challenges, she continued to put her family first. For that, they are forever grateful.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of 37 years; son, Felix; daughter, Jennifer; and two cherished grandsons, Lucas and Jacob. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you donate to Alice's ALS Memorial fund (http://support.alsevents.ca/alicepau).
