Alice Duarte Ferreira passed away peacefully in Etobicoke, Ontario on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the age of 78. She leaves behind her loving son Rui, daughter-in-law Christine Karakasis, grandsons Elias and Leo, and 3 siblings, including her sister and life-long best friend, Emilia Francisco. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Justino, and her son, Paulo. Born and raised in the small town of Nesprido, near Viseu in northern Portugal, she was the second youngest of five children to Octavio and Candida Duarte. The sudden passing of her father in her early childhood left her widowed mother to raise the young family, serving as the role model of a nurturing, resourceful and hardworking family woman and mother that Alice would grow up to be. She married in 1969 and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1974 with her husband and 3 year old son, followed shortly by the birth of her second son. Her great life passion was her dedication to her family and home, and she was the central pillar to her adoring sons and husband, impeccably running a busy household and providing a stable and loving foundation at home. Entertaining was another passion, and family and friends will fondly remember her talent for cooking and throwing lively dinner parties. Her gentle grace and radiant smile touched everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at York Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Road, Toronto) from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am, and burial on the York Cemetery grounds.
