We are extremely saddened to announce the passing of Aley Joy Ellimoottil on April 23, 2024 at the age of 83.

Aley was born in 1940 within the village of Plassanal near Palai, in the state of Kerala in India. Daughter of Antony Varkey Alappattukunnel and Mariam Antony Alappattukunnel, she had 4 brothers and 5 sisters. She moved to Canada in 1970 and began working as a nurse, which she would continue to do throughout her life. She married Joy Ellimoottil Joseph in 1974, and gave birth to her son, Joshy, in 1975.

Aley was a devoted wife, mother and later in life, an exceedingly wonderful grandmother. She had a deep and abiding faith in God and remained a devout Roman Catholic throughout her life.

Aley was married for 49 years and loved her husband Joy abundantly. When he became afflicted with Parkinson’s disease later in life, Aley cared deeply for him, both physically and mentally. He was reliant on her care and she was reliant on his love.

Aley was extremely strong in spirit and personality. Fierce with her love, affection and beliefs, she was an incredibly supportive and loving mother to her son, Joshy, and she extended her incandescent love to each of her grandchildren. She is remembered fondly by her grandkids and daughter -in-law Amelia for the great joy she displayed with them, and her strict adherence to celebrating all holidays and birthdays with numerous cakes and gifts.

In her final years, Aley was afflicted with cancer, which she fought valiantly while continuing to cherish and support her husband.

Aley was preceded in death by her husband, Joy, and she is survived by her son Joshy, daughter-in-law Amelia, grandchildren Logan, Ethan, Alice and Jaden, her sister Chinnamma, brothers Father Sebastian and Thomachan, and her nieces and nephews. She will be forever loved in their hearts.
