In memory of

Alexander "Alex" Campbell

February 4, 1941 -  November 8, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Alex Campbell on November 8, 2024 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences at the age of 83. Cherished husband of Kathleen (nee Kenny), beloved father to Julie and Karen. Loving brother to Mary Anne Campbell (Hugo Briseno), and older brother Malcolm Campbell (predeceased). Cherished brother-in-law to Patricia Kenny Hastings (Jim Kenny, predeceased), uncle to Michael (Sandi) Kenny. Beloved great uncle and master of “goofiness” to Jerry (predeceased), Kelsey, Laura and Cory Campbell (of Malcolm Campbell) and Madison, Montana and James Kenny (of Michael Kenny).

Alex loved to garden and golf in the summer and curl in the winter. When curling, he participated in the daytime men’s league as well as the Friday night mixed league for over 30+ years. Alex was Skip, with Marilyn at Vice, Denis at Second and Karen as Lead, enjoying treasured moments and lots of laughs with celebratory drinks with our worthy competitors. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying canoeing portaging, and volunteering with Scouts Canada for 20+ years. Prior to that, he volunteered as a coach in the Topham Park Baseball league and with the East York Figure Skating Club, in support of his daughters.

Alex was a loving father, an advisor, a sounding board, and handyman, amongst other roles, leaving his calling card of a beer bottle cap on the counter. Always fond of sharing a laugh, usually based on a punny comment, he was the master of what his niece Lisa Davis (daughter of Mary Anne), referred to as “oh that Campbell humour”.

We are heartbroken by his loss, but content with knowing that his valiant battle against pancreatic cancer and dementia is now over and he is at peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 2 p.m. with a memorial gathering an hour prior. Reception will follow the service.

In memory of Alex and in lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada would be appreciated by the family.

To the Campbell Family,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't get to spend much time with your Dad, Julie, but I remember his smile the most from the few times I met him.

My sincerest condolences.

Love you,

Kim

It was always an honour to curl against Alex. One of my favourite teams to share drinks with after a game on a Friday night. I will miss seeing Alex at the club. My thoughts are with his family at this time. Jenn McDougall

To the Campbell Family,

We where deeply saddened to hear of Alex’s passing. We had the privilege of curling against him for many years on Friday nights, and those games were always filled with laughter, camaraderie, and, of course, drinks afterwards. Alex was such a great spirit—both on and off the ice—and he will always be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and the fun times we shared.

He will be greatly missed by all of us who had the pleasure of playing with and against him. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. RIP Alex!

Alex was always a gentleman, friend and professional curler.

We shared many a joke and beer at the apres-curling event at the club.

I truly will miss him!

Fred King.
