In memory of

Alex Aspiotis

September 18, 1940 -  May 21, 2022

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Alex Aspiotis after a two year battle with laryngeal cancer on Saturday May 21, 2022 at the age of 81.

The youngest son of the late Dimitrios and Ourania Aspiotis, Alex was born in 1940 in Xino Nero Greece where he met and married the love of his life, Giannoula, in 1966. He was an amazing husband and loving father to Jim (Mary) and Renee (John) and his four grandchildren Alyssa, Gabby, Sophia and Mateo. He was also the loving brother to the late George (Efrosini) and Poulheria (Kosta).

If you knew Alex, you knew him as the loudest man in the room with the biggest heart. Two years ago, while cancer devastatingly took away that boisterous voice, it could never break his heart. In fact, Alex’s heart continued to beat for almost two weeks after his spirit left for Heaven, when his life unexpectedly took a turn while recovering from life-altering cancer surgery. During that time, his unbroken heart continued to beat and touched countless of care givers at Sunnybrook Hospital, who treated him with respect and dignity to the very end.

Alex passed away comfortably in his sleep at 2:45 am on May 21, after the family said their goodbyes together, as a unit, earlier in the day.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Thursday May 26 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with funeral service immediately to follow. All services will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Road
Scarborough, ON). The family also invites you to join them for lunch immediately following the burial at The Arkadia House (2007 Eglinton Ave E, Scarborough, ON).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation. Sunnybrook provided excellent end-of-life care and we are very grateful.

Dad/Pappou, you are already sorely missed, and just know that you are forever loved and will never be forgotten. May God rest your soul.

Renee, John, Sophia & Mateo,

I am so sorry to read of your dear dad's, father-in-law's and grandfather's passing this past weekend. Renee, my heart is heavy for you all. The last time we saw each other, our conversation included speaking about both of our dads and how difficult it was to watch our parents go through tough medical times... as mine had passed in 2013. Your dad will always have a huge place in your heart and even though I never met him, your tribute speaks volumes as to who he was and how much he loved life. He has certainly left a wonderful legacy. I'm thankful that you, John and the kids have those precious memories that have been made over the years....to cherish for a lifetime. He raised an amazing daughter who in turn, alongside your dear hubby, has raised two amazing children who I have had the pleasure of getting to know throughout their elementary school years. As hard as it is to say your earthly goodbyes, take comfort in knowing that your dad is now pain-free, in his eternal home, and resting in peace....and will always be looking down upon you and your family as your lives continue to unfold. Yes, one day you will all reunite. In the interim, my thoughts and prayers are with you as these next days, weeks, months unfold and its adjustment sets a new norm. Sending hugs and lots of love to you and your family today.
