Aime Jules Leon Wichelhaus

September 3, 1931 -  July 3, 2022

In Loving Memory of Aimé Jules Léon Wichelhaus.

Born September 3rd 1931 passed away at home on July 3rd 2022 at approximately 6pm.

Husband to Denise Wichelhaus Father of Yolande Wichelhaus Grandfather to Renee Fialho Great Grandfather to Damian Daniels Father In-Law to Andre P and DeAndre D.

My father, Aime, was a very strong man and a great provider for his family. He worked diligently to provide us with a good home and we were never short of anything. He was proud to be a member of the carpenter’s union local 27 for the past 60 years. My father was an athletic man his whole life who enjoyed wrestling, skydiving and horseback riding. My Dad was solid as a rock. We loved him dearly and he will truly be missed.

A grandfather and a Father all in one. I was so lucky and still am. You were quiet most of the time but had a lot to say once you started. Telling your stories about your time parachuting or bringing out the map and showing me all of Belgium especially where you and grandma lived I’ve heard Applemansstraat and the street you lived on as a child Scoolstraat enough that it’s embedded in my memory.

All the years you worked in construction thanks to you I learned about how to chisel wood and sandpaper with the grain.
I remember the smell of saw dust and metal when you would come home from work as a child and you used to bring this white and yellow cooler with you and sometimes if I was lucky you would have a grape, orange or pink crush with you.
You taught me how to ride a bike, we played tennis in the backyard with wooden rackets you made, you taught me how to change the kitchen faucet, fix the light on a car, cut the grass and so many more useful things. There are only good memories for you Bompa.

“I'm off to Bethlehem” as you would say on your way up the stairs to bed. Rest peacefully grandpa I love you.

I always remember uncle smiling, laughing and teasing. I really enjoyed our visits when we would drink tea and he'd share many stories about Belgium, family and friends. I also remember his per backyard squirrel that would climb up his leg and eat out of his hand. He will be missed! Lots of love from Nicole, Isabel and Abby
