Ailien Chen

August 15, 1937 -  March 12, 2017

Ailien Ee Chen, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away on Sunday March 12, 2017 at Tyndall Nursing Home. She was 79 years old. She was born on August 15, 1937 in Bombay, India, eldest first daughter in a large family of 7. She graduated with a BA from Bombay University, one of the early female pioneers in the Chinese Indian community. In 1961, she married Dr. Kwo Chow Chen and had two children, Dr. William Chen and Dr. Christopher Chen. They were the first of their family to come to Canada in 1969. Despite caring for her young family and working full time, she obtained a B. Economics from York University, Toronto and her Real Estate Brokerage license. She was very active in the Sudbury East Indian community while supporting her husband's dental practice. Ailien was very sociable, hosting lavish dinner parties with entertainment including Hindi singing. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her hand manicure lawn, pruned bushes and beautiful flower beds. She enjoyed competitive tennis, swimming, hiking and golfing. Art and crafts were other hobbies along with delicate hand embroidery. She enjoyed cooking fusion Chinese and Indian cuisine. She is survived by her husband, two sons, daughter-in-laws and her six loving grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.
