In memory of

Adelina D'Alessio

March 15, 1922 -  December 16, 2021

In her 100th year, we lost our beloved mother, Adelina D’Alessio (nee Altobelli) on December 16, 2021.

Born in San Vito Chieti (Italy) to Fiorindo and Concetta (Cupido). Adelina was the youngest of 9 children.

Beloved wife of 53 years to the late Gabriele (1997). She emigrated to Canada in 1953 with two young children to start a new life with her husband.

Survived by her children, Mary (Late Romeo Sr), John (Judy), Angie (Rick), Lena (Mike) and Lydia.
Nonna to Rose, Romeo Jr, John Douglas, Corrina, Nadia, Natalie, Andrew, Matthew and Gabriel. She will be sadly missed by her many great and great-great grandchildren.

She never forgot her Italian heritage and traditions instilling them on to her children and grandchildren. Her most treasured times were those spent with her famiglia. Traditions that were food-based and centered around the kitchen and family.

Adelina was a charismatic, kind and a most loving person with a sharp sense of humour. Fiercely loyal, she devoted her life to her family, mothered everyone so much so that friends would often call her mom. She was the epitome of the Italian mother and Nonna and the Matriarch of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to:
Parkinson Canada
Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada
SickKids Foundation

I will miss you forever nonna. I have the best memories of spending school vacations with you. Easter and Christmas in the basement with the whole family. Food, food and more food. And even more, our private moments when you would tell me about your childhood with your mother and siblings and then later your life with Nonno Gabriele. Your love for your children and family never went unnoticed. We are all so blessed that you were with us for so long.

Rest In Peace nonna. Until we meet again ❤️

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Mom,

For as long as I can remember you have been my guiding light. Your dedication has been an ever present pillar in my life. You have taught me everything I know and stand for and have raised me to be strong and independent. Thank you for everything you have done for me, and sacrificed for me.

You left your mother and siblings in Italy to make a new life in Canada, but you never forget them. What a great lesson for no matter how far your loved ones are, you can still hold them near and dear to your heart.

It took me a while to appreciate your dry humour but when I did, oh did we have some fun times.

No matter what, I have always been your little girl, always needing your love and affection. Thank you for laughing and smiling with me through my stupid jokes, crazy little stories and antics. Thank you for making me feel beautiful, and for reminding me that the world isn’t ending even when I think it is.

Thank you for always making me feel unconditionally loved and appreciated. Thank you for being the person with the ready bowl of soup when a neighbour was sick, the women who invites paramedics to their home for Easter lunch after almost cracking her head open after a fall.

Words cannot express the gratefulness and appreciation I feel for you, neither can they define the thanks that I would love to give you for everything you have done for me. You have always been there for me, through right and wrong, and have shown me the way. You have always pushed me to be the best that I can be. You are the reason I stand where I am today. You were the greatest influence on me, and it’s an influence that will stay with me always.

You are now with your beloved Gabriele and adored siblings but you will never be forgotten. I love you mom. Love you so much, Lydia
