We can't even imagine the pain your are feeling. We fell in love with Abbey. Even in the short time she was on Earth, she touched and captured all of our hearts. She could not have had more loving and more caring parents and grandparents who were always by her side. She would have felt all of your love every minute she was on Earth. All of us will always remember the strong and beautiful baby who we were so fortunate to see.

Stephanie and Justin want to let you know that Abigail Marie Bisaillon (affectionately known as "Abbey"), was born on Saturday July 28th at 2:44 AM. She has been moved to Sick Kids Hospital for specialized care and the length of her stay is unknown.

Stephanie and Justin will send updates when they are ready to, but know that you are all thinking of them.

Hello,

Stephanie and Justin wanted to provide an update on Baby Abbey. At 12 days old, Abigail is currently stable in NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and the new parents are enjoying every moment they can with her.

After birth, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disease (Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease or "ARPKD"). This also caused her to have underdeveloped lungs (Pulmonary Hypoplasia). As a result, she is receiving dialysis and is on a ventilator. She will be in expert care at Sick Kids for the foreseeable future.

Again, Stephanie and Justin appreciate all of your prayers, well wishes and support.

Hello Everyone,

Stephanie and Justin are thrilled to celebrate this special day, with Abigail turning 1 month old - a big milestone in the NICU at SickKids.

Medically, Abbey's lungs have continued to improve over the past few weeks, allowing her to be extubated last Tuesday. She now has a CPAP mask to assist with her breathing. Dialysis continues to be successful, with her fluid intake and outtake monitored very carefully. Our focus now is for Abbey to get bigger and stronger and to grow as she will eventually require a kidney transplant.

Stephanie and Justin are beyond grateful for all the thoughts, prayers and support that they have been receiving. They are welcoming visitors at this time, so please feel free to reach out to them or myself to arrange a time to visit as there are some restrictions.

Hello Everyone,

Abbey has had a busy week! After having the CPAP mask on for 6 days, she was moved to high-flow Oxygen. However as she kept removing her nasal prongs, they took her off all ventilation support last Tuesday. Now she just needs a smidgen of oxygen every now and then!!

With the improvement in her lung development, she "graduated" out of the NICU to the nephrology wing of the hospital!! Such a bittersweet transition for us as we loved all the nurses in the NICU. But we are in great hands on the 6th floor now, with the dialysis experts.

Abbey has loved having visitors and is interacting with us more and more every day. Today was another big day for us as we moved her into a crib for the first time! Our little Abbey is growing up!!

Hello Everyone,

Stephanie and Justin want to apologize for the delay with this update. Since we last communicated with you on September 3rd, we have been on a bit of a roller coaster ride.

After being off all ventilation support for 5 days, Abbey began to require more assistance with breathing and her Peritoneal Dialysis became less effective due to her kidneys taking up too much space in her abdomen. In addition, she had contracted an infection from one of her lines. In order to better assist Abbey, she was moved to the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), had a Hemodialysis line added and was re-intubated. After hitting a plateau last Friday, Abbey was taken to the OR and had a left Nephrectomy (kidney removal) in order to give her more room to breathe.

The surgery went better then anticipated; however the following days were a challenging time for us as Abbey continued to decline post-op. Fortunately, we have a serious fighter on our hands and against the odds, Abbey has been showing promising improvements over the last three days. We have been able to successfully restart Peritoneal Dialysis and began weaning her off some of her ventilation settings.
