Obituary
Madam Yuk Mui Chan passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her family, on March 2, 2023. She was born on March 14, 1928 in Hong Kong to Hung Yan Chan and Kui Tong Lai, and was one of seven siblings. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Yuk Mui was a sharp, witty, and fiercely independent lady, with a wonderful sense of humour. She was the pillar of the family, and had an excellent memory; she never forgot the birthdays of all family members and offered them red pockets every year. She loved to look her best with her beautiful purses and her hair styled perfectly at the hair salon every weekend. She never had a single strand of hair out of place, and refused to ruin it with a hat, even in the freezing cold weather. Yuk Mui was well-loved by all of her children who ensured she never wanted for anything, and took her on many adventures. While still in Hong Kong and also after immigrating to Canada in 1989, Yuk Mui lovingly babysat Wing Fai, Simon, Benjamin, Alvin, Aaron, and Amanda on a regular basis. She played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren, taking them around Toronto on the TTC, teaching them how to play Mahjong and Solitaire, and was always up for their shenanigans, whether it was climbing trees and hills to take pictures or being hoisted up for a piggyback ride. Yuk Mui adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often teasing them or making funny faces at them.
She is survived and forever cherished by her brother Tommy Yuk Cheong Chan, and two sisters, Yuk Jane Chan, and Yuk Quan Chan; her children, Cheong-Ki (Lily), Allan (Virginia), Pauline (Patrick), Wallace (Goretti), Arthur (Miranda), and Donna (Alex); her grandchildren, Simon, Calvin (Mina), Gabriel (Lillian), Benjamin (Sarah), Michelle (Ryan), Elsa (Carlos), Justin, Alvin (Victoria), Aaron, Amanda, Portia, and Desmond; and her great-grandchildren, Lena, Lucas, Naomi, Emily, Trinity, Carl, Dylan, and Sofia.
She is predeceased by her husband, Yiu Chung Lee (1986), and her son, Pak Kay Li (2020). We will miss her dearly, but are comforted knowing that she lived a long and fulfilling life, and is now at peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in loving memory of Yuk Mui Chan, to the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) where she was well taken care of in the last few months, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
